the concept of redhook project (1)


the motivation:

New York’s population density of 26400 people per square mile

Manhattan has the highest population density in the country

New York population will be around 9.5 million by 2030

It means just extra residential space is needed to house 1.5 million people

The new housing marketplace plan by mayor office suggests:

Creating 92,000 units of middle class housing

And looking for innovative strategies to maximize land capacity in NY

Therefore it recommends strategies such as:

-Finding new land

-Creating incentives to develop housing

Besides the NYC 2030 plan suggest

-Reclaiming underutilized water fronts

-Exploring additional areas of opportunity such as decking over rail lines and high ways

The plan estimates that 20,000 units of new housing is needed by 2030
